Electrical and Automation Development Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities

The Electrical and Automation Development Engineer leads the development of an automated sand separator. The individual is responsible for all PLC, SCADA and HMI applications, program development, system architecture design, network design, instrumentation specification and selection, control panel design and acceptance testing, system commissioning and start-up sand separation equipment/systems. The individual must possess great communications skills that include the proven ability to communicate with engineers, customers and field personnel. In addition, the automation engineer is responsible for field support and troubleshooting to include electrical and automation support. The position will interface largely with the mechanical R&D team.nnProblem solving, decision making skills, logical thinking, project management skills; ability to apply statistical calculations, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory as well as algebra, linear equations, and other analytics as required. Duties of this position must be performed with a clear focus on safety, quality and gratification to meet not only the satisfaction of our customers but also the core values of the company.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Design: Works with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Designers to develop control logic, P&IDu2019s, and layouts to efficiently meet customer specifications; ensures designs and layouts conform to specifications, code requirements, and safety requirements.
  • Provides direction to Designers and CAD operators for creation of engineering drawings.
  • Develops design specifications for external suppliers including OEMu2019s and Sub-Contractors.
  • Communicates directly with equipment vendors to obtain all necessary designs, drawings and controls information. Utilize collected data to design equipment controls.
  • Prepare contract documents, calculations, observation reports, and estimates.
  • Budget Control: Assists in bid process by estimating layout costs (design and material) for specified process; Seeks alternative methods that reduce cost of design; Reviews activities to ensure design stays within projected costs.
  • Client Interface: Effectively responds to needs and requests of clients as needed.
  • Project Administration: Utilizes company software to ensure all necessary documents are in place and processed; reviews and approves Engineering Change Notices; develops and implements design project schedules; schedules meetings as necessary with suppliers, owners, design teams, and permitting agencies; plans work schedules and timelines for support staff.
  • External Relationships: Coordinates with outside engineering and other resources on all aspects of design; communicates with permitting and regulatory agencies as necessary
  • Provides on-site project support to assist in accurate controls equipment installation with contractors using the project installation drawings.
  • Assists in updating all record data and drawings for final project completion.
  • Design and configure complete SCADA systems from the RTUu2019s to the host.
  • Develop Electrical equipment specifications.
  • Create, review, red-line and mark-ups on wiring, schematic, and single line diagram.
  • Design remote network access for Employees
  • Work with electrical System Design Software (eSDS), creating load lists.
  • Review & generate design data from P&IDs.
  • Create wiring, schematic, & single line diagrams.
  • Assist with construction, initial startup, and debug of new equipment and/or installations.
  • Participate in final preparations and testing of new control panels prior to customer delivery.
  • Perform post-delivery functions for new control panel/equipment including installation support, training, process troubleshooting, and subsequent service at customer sites.
  • Perform validations, diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, and other activities required to support existing control panels and/or equipment.
  • Identify and communicate issues found in the field and effectively work with Engineering or other responsible parties to quickly resolve them (vendor, assembly, etc.).
  • Perform complex service or system calls and interact with customer personnel to provide quality service and feedback on problem evaluation and resolution.
  • Document and file reports of all installations, inspections, maintenance and repair work, and failures.
  • Perform complex product and service training to customers per project specification.
  • Interact with clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities as needed.

                                                      Education, Training & Experience

                                                      • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.
                                                      • Must have four to eight yearsu2019 professional experience in an Engineering role.
                                                      • Minimum five years of progressive experience in process/manufacturing engineering environment.
                                                      • Technical knowledge in PLC code, HMI programming and Scada systems.
                                                      • Area classification, emergency load, and heat tracing philosophy studies.
                                                      • VT Scada, C Scape, TIA portal, Movicon, RSLogix, Proficy, MATLAB, PCWORX, Danfoss, VISU+, etc.
                                                      • Design and draft using AutoCAD (2D) or Equivalent
                                                      • C, C++, VB, Python, etc.

                                                      Skills and Abilities

                                                      • Technical writing
                                                      • Statistical analysis
                                                      • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Microsoft Project.
                                                      • Electrical/Automation control systems design, optimization & configuration.
                                                      • PLC and HMI design, programming & implementation.
                                                      • Product Zone management and design changes.
                                                      • Hydraulic Pneumatic control system & equipment sensor integration.
                                                      • Field installs, commissioning & troubleshooting.
                                                      • Familiar with industrial network technologies such as Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, etc.
                                                      • Maintain HSE focus & critical analysis requirements in all designs
                                                      • Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor as well as within a team environment.
                                                      • Excellent and proven organizational skills in order to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work environment.
                                                      • Identify, address and resolve issues and problems as or before they occur.

                                                      Physical and Safety Requirements

                                                      • Required to sit, stand and walk regularly. Willing to climb to heights of less than 10 feet, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl under and around equipment.
                                                      • Ability to occasionally lift office products or material up to 50lbs.
                                                      • The employee must be adaptable to the unique work conditions that could consist of long and irregular hours to meet multiple deadlines.
                                                      • Pass the required drug screen as well as Driversu2019 Abstract.
                                                      • Travel to customer and site locations 25-50%.
